Okay, so. everythingkindoffellapart

I mean, I didn’t totally fall off the wagon! I have gotten better about doing things, like keeping dishes out of the sink, and staying on top of laundry. I did finish cleaning/organizing my closet and the master bathroom, and have *so far* kept them clean! But the day-to-day stuff in my “Confident Mom” planner has fallen a bit to the wayside. Part of the problem is I started reading again. omg I love reading. I haven’t read – like REALLY read – in over a year, probably. It’s so good. I love it. But I only have like 2-3 hours in the evenings to do stuff I want to do. I can’t just sit and read for 30 minutes. I need a good hour (or three). I’ve also been screwing up my sleep because I want to finish the book, darnit, so I’m going to stay away another 30, 45, 60 minutes…

Anyway – after pictures!!

2017 – January, Weeks 3 & 4 | The Wilson Buzz 2017 – January, Weeks 3 & 4 | The Wilson BuzzIt is very satisfying to have a clean closet and bathroom. I’m still highly motivated to get the rest of the house done. I just…need to get over this reading high first. lol!

2017 – January, Week 2

Check out the full month here.

I was riding high on my killer Week 1, so of course I had to crash and burn this week. >.< I mean, I didn’t *totally* crash and burn, but it got off to a rough start. I had a cold, LBW had a cold, and about half the teeth in his head decided to make an appearance. I swear I’m only slightly exaggerating. He had like 2 teeth in December. December 30 I noticed two top teeth that he’d been cutting all month had finally popped out. January 6 I noticed a third top tooth that was almost out. January 8 I noticed a third bottom tooth that had already come all the way out that we’d somehow overlooked. So we have six visible teeth right now. And I’m pretty confident he’s working on at least two more up top, possibly more on the bottom. AND HE HAS A COLD. Do you know what this week has been like? Because I wish you could tell me – I’ve been in a sleepless fog the entire time. lol

I did use a January Cure assignment to knock out one of my personal goals, which I feel like is a bit of a cheat, but whatever. I have a lot to do this year, and have to do whatever it takes to not get burnt out in Week 2. Ugh, I just realized I need to do a Home Tour, too. Ugh, ugh, ugh.

My main focus this week was on doing a quick sort on all my clothes, to hopefully do a pretty good purge and cut down on the angst of next week, where I have to try everything on to make sure I really do like it and it fits me. I was…moderately successful.

You can click on any of those pictures to embiggen. (top left) I have started a nice little “donate” pile, but it’s still not as big as I was hoping. I’m sure it will grow in time. There are a lot of clothes in my like/love that I’m iffy about. I just want to try them on again to know for sure, you know? (top right) The pile in the background is my “like” pile of clothes I haven’t worn in awhile and am not sure still fit, but would like to try them on to make sure. The pile in the front are clothes that a coworker gave me when she cleaned out her closet. I need to try them on. (bottom left) I’m not sure how many – if any – of my bras still fit me. My boobs got weird after having the baby. I’ve decided I’m going to get one really nice article of clothing every month, starting with a good bra in January. I also need to come up with a good method to purge my panties. I have a lot that I never wear, but won’t get rid of for some reason. (bottom right) These are my “love” clothes that I don’t really love but I wear them a lot, so whatever.

Here’s what my reorganized closet looks like. Still on the fence on if I like it – we’ll see how functional it ends up being once it’s full of clothes. I’m not entirely sure how else I could set it up so it would work better… Suggestions?

For the bathroom, I just needed to “scrub” (I let Scrubbing Bubbles do most of the work) our shower and tub. Mr. T was supposed to finish the shower door project that he had started on, but I decided to give him projects based on the assumption that he had Mondays off. In actuality, he started on a project to design a mural for a new space at a local restaurant that is now taking up most of his Mondays…so we’ll see how much he actually gets done over the next few weeks. I’m really excited about the mural, though, so I won’t complain. But yeah, no work was done on the shower.

So, yeah – the tub wasn’t too exciting because it stays pretty clean. I use it so infrequently that the only real issue is that it gets dusty. The shower, on the other hand…oh, the shower…

At least you get satisfaction in getting visible improvement? And maybe now you have a better idea about what shape our toilet was in. lol! As far as the other stuff on my checklist…

2017 – January, Week 2 | The Wilson BuzzWell. I tried. Kind of. A little bit. On a couple days. lol! I have been trying to be mindful of the “hot spots” – our table and ottoman. Just keeping those clean I feel goes a long way toward keeping the house feeling clean. This coming week it’s going to be the kitchen island as well – I try to focus on a new one without giving up on the previous one(s) every week.

30 Minute Cleaning Countdown

I want you to choose one closet in your home that could use a little attention. Grab a vacuum, a trash bag and an outbox/bag and put them by the closet. This is a timed Cure exercise, so also grab your phone or a kitchen timer and set it for 30 minutes… Once you have gathered your supplies, start your timer and JUST JUMP IN! At the end of 30 minutes, when your alarm rings, shut off the vacuum and wrap things up. Take a moment to assess what else needs to happen, if anything, for the closest to be in really good shape and estimate how much time it will take you to complete that on another day. Then, put back anything you may have taken out temporarily to make room to clean and put what you decided to get rid of into your outbox or rag bin and CLOSE THE DOOR. You are done for today!

We’re supposed to be cleaning out a closet, but since my entire January goal is my closet (and the master bathroom), and this is the week I’m supposed to be doing my “quick and dirty” sort, I decided to dedicated 30 min of post-LBW bedtime to doing the sort. Look at me, tweaking the rules so I can mark two things off my list in one activity! I’m so sneaky. Plus, it’s Tuesday and I haven’t even started to sort…so I really needed to do that. I was planning on cleaning out our hall closet for this challenge, but I’ll just get to that in September, when I’m scheduled to organize the hallway, half-bath, and laundry room. Hooray, procrastination!

2017 January Cure: Assignment 7 | The Wilson Buzz

2017 January Cure: Assignment 7 | The Wilson BuzzI’m keeping most of my shoes because I don’t have many shoes and they’re all crap. I did set aside one pair to donate. I have two sandals that don’t match, but are missing their mates. I love those shoes, and I’m not getting rid of them until I’m done purging the entire house and have confirmed the other ones are lost forever. Or I buy new sandals in the Spring. Either way. And I have two pair of shoes that I’ve really never worn but can’t get rid of…so I’m keeping them for one more year and if I don’t wear them in the next year I’m donating them then. Darnit.

2017 January Cure: Assignment 7 | The Wilson BuzzThis is my donate pile. Not the sound machine. Those things are worth their weight in gold. But, yeah – I thought the donate pile would be bigger. I’m not done yet, of course. Still some stuff to sort, and then I have to actually try on everything I want to keep. Bleh.

2017 January Cure: Assignment 7 | The Wilson BuzzThat big pile to the left of the lamp is my keep pile, and the smaller pile in front of it is my maybe pile. I probably have half-a-dozen maternity shirts still floating around, but my maternity box for the attic is full – I can’t put anything else in it. Plus they’re some of my most comfy shirts. Lots of stretch. lolol

2017 January Cure: Assignment 7 | The Wilson BuzzI have a lot of t-shirts going all the way back to high school from things like church camp and I can’t get rid of them even though I haven’t worn them in a friggen decade. WHATEVER. I also found several of Wade’s things. Why they were in my closet? idk.

2017 January Cure: Assignment 7 | The Wilson BuzzThis is the pile of things that were hanging that I still need to go through. This is where a lot of donate things are going to come from, I think, because the stuff that I actually wear I wasn’t bothering to hang up because I knew this was coming up. lol

A couple of fun things I found…this bomb dot com giraffe hat that Mr. T got me a few years ago. Once the temperature drops again imma be wearing this bad boy to work every day! What are they gonna do, fire me?!?!?! I’m hilarious.

2017 January Cure: Assignment 7 | The Wilson BuzzAnd this is one of the sweetest things Mr. T’s ever gotten me. It was when we were first married and he was going to be gone for a while. He didn’t want me to miss him, so he thought he’d get me a gift to keep me company. It was supposed to feel like he was sleeping beside me in the bed. He just…he got the scale off a little bit.

Past Cures

2017 – January, Week 1

Check out the full month here.

So for Week 1 all (ha! “all”) I had to do was totally clean out my closet (then clean it) and scrub the toilet in the master bathroom. Mr. T’s project was to fix the toilet. It had started leaking – again – where the water line connects to the tank. It actually started doing this not long after we moved in and he fixed it back then with some plumber’s tape. He was actually doing the same thing this time, but he’s so MANLY AND STRONG that he tightened it too much and broke the PVC connector and had to replace it. >.< Anyway, after he replaced it, it seems the leak is fixed – again – at least for now.

If you follow me on Instagram (you totally should), you’ve already seen these pictures. But here are the Before/After photos of the closet from Day 1 of “the emptying”:

2017 - January, Week 1 | The Wilson Buzz2017 - January, Week 1 | The Wilson Buzz I’m not entirely sure how many trips I took up the stairs with all my clothes. And for the record, this isn’t even all my clothes. These are just the ones in my closet. I’m sure there are plenty mixed in with Mr. T’s clothes in our disaster of a bedroom, and I just don’t want to deal with that right now. ALSO, since I knew I was going to be doing this, I’ve gotten a bit lazy about hanging up my clothes after washing them (which is part of the reason my “before” pictures are so horrific)…but that means all the clothes I wear pretty regularly were the first ones I carried upstairs. So they’re at the bottom of the pile. Finding clothes to wear to work was fun. >.<

I don’t have any pictures of the results from the cleaning and reorganization, though. Actually, I did take some, but then I planned on doing a couple more things so I decided to delete those pictures and take new ones…I did do the stuff I planned on doing, but I didn’t take more pictures! I’m not 100% sold on the new layout, anyway. We’ll just have to see how it works as I start bringing in clothes. I may have screwed myself out of a lot of hanging space with how I placed the furniture.

Oh, and I’m not going to show you a picture of our toilet. Even I have my limits with oversharing, okay? You may not believe it, but it’s true! Plus, if you saw it now, you’d go “it’s just a toilet, though” and I’d be like “but you should have seen it BEFORE!!” And now you’re probably imagining something way more horrific than it really was. Anyway, no pictures.

Outside of the main closet/master bath projects I had, I also have some daily and one-off tasks planned out in my daily planner. I think I did a pretty good job of maintaining that as well. Way to be responsible, Sarah! *pats self on back* I didn’t always get it done the day I scheduled, but I still got most everything done! Except the exercise. Screw exercise…

Planning Pages for 2017: Organization

Posted on

I’ve started typing up the planning pages for my 2017 Organization schedule, but subscribers don’t get emails on page posts, so now I’m making a blog post, too!!

Here is the main page. You can also access it in the navigation bar. I have the January and February & March pages set up as well. These are also accessible through the navigation bar, and from the main page. I’m debating on if I’ll do weekly and/or monthly updates as well, to keep you notified on my progress (but mainly to hold myself accountable). Just like my yearly home tours, these posts are probably going to be way too honest. If you can’t be honest with strangers on the Internet, though, who can you be honest with?!

I’m super excited to get this project started, and am hopeful that I can transform my life in the coming months!! Considering 2017 is literally less than two weeks away, we don’t have long to find out!

2017: Organization

Posted on

I have declared a theme for 2017. One word to sum up my main goal for the entire year. Every aspect of my life. What I most want to accomplish throughout the course of the year.

I’m going to get organized, darnit – even if it kills me!! I’m breaking it down in great and specific detail, too. First I started by breaking the year and our house down into sections, creating a broad schedule:

  1. January
    • Sarah’s Closet
    • Master Bathroom
  2. February
  3. March
    • Master Bedroom
  4. April
    • LBW’s Room
  5. May
    • Back Yard
  6. June
    • Front Yard
  7. July
  8. August
    • Living Room
  9. September
    • Downstairs Hallway, Half-Bath, and Laundry Room
  10. October
    • Entrance, Stairwell, and Upstairs Landing
  11. November
    • Kitchen
  12. December
    • Play Room (formerly the guest bedroom)

Beyond this broad overview, I’ve broken it down into weekly tasks, and then I’ve broken it down even further using a planner I found online so I have day-by-day goals!! I’ve made it all the way through April with my daily goals, and I’m starting to get SUPER PUMPED about the upcoming year. I’m really counting on the three of you that read this blog to hold me accountable.

In future posts I’ll share my weekly breakdowns (I really don’t think you’ll care to get the daily ones, lol) and I’d love to get your feedback and suggestions!!

There are a few projects I’ll rope Mr. T into while I do this, but it’s mainly me doing stuff. His goal for the entire year are to organize two rooms: the garage and the bonus room. These are his “man caves” – one for construction and tools, and the other for arts and crafts.

I’m so excited, you guys. So excited!! 2017 is barely more than two weeks away, can you believe it?!

Failing Kind of Hard, Per Usual

So I mentioned I had Big Plans to get back on track with keeping the house clean in the coming year. New baby and all that.

Well. I have not been able to mark very many things off my calendar. The very first FlyLady challenge was to clean your sink? Hasn’t happened. She has annoyed the piss out of me with relentless emails, though! Seriously – it’s probably close to 10 a day. And all but 1 or 2 are testimonials that try to sell you her products. REALLY annoying. I’ve decided I’m not going to do any of her daily email challenges until I get through the 31 baby steps, which I have yet to start on – remember the unshiny sink? I think it will be best to start on January 1. Well, that’s what I decided after I never did the first one, and so now according to my calendar I should be on Day 4… And I am even more convinced this is for SAHMs. It’s impossible to do all this. Impossible, I say! I’ve set myself up for failure, I have.

I was supposed to start this new life on Sunday, but a couple of friends came over and we all ate pizza and watched Aladdin, which is SO much more fun than cleaning. I was able to plan my weekly menu and buy groceries, though! Then Monday some more friends from out of town came over and bunch of us went out to eat Mexican food, then they hung out at our house until after 10:00. Mr. T went with them to watch Star Wars and I went to bed. Last night I did actually get something accomplished! The bathroom is like 99% clean!! My goal was to get the bathroom clean before I did my 2016 Home Tour, and I’m almost there! It will probably be much shorter this year, as we have roommates in the two upstairs bedrooms so I’m not going to go in them at all. It’s one thing to overshare about my own life – I won’t drag innocents into it. ;)

I’m looking over all this stuff that I was supposed to do the past few days, and I’m like…man. I really should’ve done that. >.< Maybe I can catch up tomorrow and Friday. They’re my last two days off until maternity leave!! Which is a terrifying thought, by the way. Three months! That’s all. Just three months. At what point do you feel ready for a child? Don’t answer that. I know the answer is “Never, really. But you’ll do fine.” And if your answer is anything other than that, I don’t want to hear it, anyway.

Oh, and I signed up for Apartment Therapy’s January Cure again this year. Because it’s not like I’m not failing at enough already. Let’s add one more thing to the list!!

Big Plans, Per Usual

Posted on

I’ve been working on a New Year’s Resolutions post, but I need to consult with Mr. T on his list before I publish. I also keep adding to mine…the thing I just added was setting up a cleaning routine. I was scrolling through old blog posts and saw so many times over the past year that I had cleaned a room, and how nice it always looked, and I was like…dang, girl maintain that shizz. Then I remembered that my sister had requested I find some sort of home cleaning guide that lasted the entire year, rather just a one-off thing that only lasts for about a month and focuses on one room/project. So I began my quest. It lasted like 10 minutes. I posted in a FB group I’m in and was directed toward two separate (and free!) resources: FlyLady and The Confident Mom.

Apparently FlyLady emails you approximately a BILLION TIMES every day (seriously, I signed up this morning and have already gotten…like 3-4 emails) and reminds you to do things. I think this is a service more for women who are home all day. But she has a 31 Days of Baby Steps thing to help you get started on a routine. So I’m going to start on those next week. No, not today – it’s freaking Christmas Eve Eve and I’ve got better stuff to do, yo. Like not clean. Her big first thing that is super important and you have to maintain daily is keeping your sink shiny. Ho boy. Our sink is my cleaning kryptonite. HOW DID SHE KNOW?! But! I will do my best!!

The Confident Mom has a Weekly Household Planner (that is customizable!) to help you stay on track. I went through the next two weeks and tweaked her schedule a bit, which included adding reminders to do a FlyLady Baby Step every day! I’m not looking forward to having children, though, for real. She had dishes/laundry listed under Daily Tasks, which is nutso. I wonder how many kids she has?? And it’s another one that seems like it’s kind of for women that are home all day. I’m sure I can tweak it as the year progresses, too. And God knows what will happen to me come April when I HAVE A CHILD HOLY CRAP WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH A CHILD?!

And I just remembered that last year I did a Home Tour. If I can get the rest of the trash from Thanxmas 2015 cleaned up in the next week or so, I should be shooting another one soon. It was cool to see the obvious ways our house has changed over the year. Well, the bad changes are less cool than the good ones… lol! But I’m excited to overshare with you soon!!
