Okay, so. everythingkindoffellapart

I mean, I didn’t totally fall off the wagon! I have gotten better about doing things, like keeping dishes out of the sink, and staying on top of laundry. I did finish cleaning/organizing my closet and the master bathroom, and have *so far* kept them clean! But the day-to-day stuff in my “Confident Mom” planner has fallen a bit to the wayside. Part of the problem is I started reading again. omg I love reading. I haven’t read – like REALLY read – in over a year, probably. It’s so good. I love it. But I only have like 2-3 hours in the evenings to do stuff I want to do. I can’t just sit and read for 30 minutes. I need a good hour (or three). I’ve also been screwing up my sleep because I want to finish the book, darnit, so I’m going to stay away another 30, 45, 60 minutes…

Anyway – after pictures!!

2017 – January, Weeks 3 & 4 | The Wilson Buzz 2017 – January, Weeks 3 & 4 | The Wilson BuzzIt is very satisfying to have a clean closet and bathroom. I’m still highly motivated to get the rest of the house done. I just…need to get over this reading high first. lol!

I was riding high on my killer Week 1, so of course I had to crash and burn this week. >.< I mean, I didn’t *totally* crash and burn, but it got off to a rough start. I had a cold, LBW had a cold, and about half the teeth in his head decided to make an appearance. I swear I’m only slightly exaggerating. He had like 2 teeth in December. December 30 I noticed two top teeth that he’d been cutting all month had finally popped out. January 6 I noticed a third top tooth that was almost out. January 8 I noticed a third bottom tooth that had already come all the way out that we’d somehow overlooked. So we have six visible teeth right now. And I’m pretty confident he’s working on at least two more up top, possibly more on the bottom. AND HE HAS A COLD. Do you know what this week has been like? Because I wish you could tell me – I’ve been in a sleepless fog the entire time. lol

I did use a January Cure assignment to knock out one of my personal goals, which I feel like is a bit of a cheat, but whatever. I have a lot to do this year, and have to do whatever it takes to not get burnt out in Week 2. Ugh, I just realized I need to do a Home Tour, too. Ugh, ugh, ugh.

My main focus this week was on doing a quick sort on all my clothes, to hopefully do a pretty good purge and cut down on the angst of next week, where I have to try everything on to make sure I really do like it and it fits me. I was…moderately successful.

You can click on any of those pictures to embiggen. (top left) I have started a nice little “donate” pile, but it’s still not as big as I was hoping. I’m sure it will grow in time. There are a lot of clothes in my like/love that I’m iffy about. I just want to try them on again to know for sure, you know? (top right) The pile in the background is my “like” pile of clothes I haven’t worn in awhile and am not sure still fit, but would like to try them on to make sure. The pile in the front are clothes that a coworker gave me when she cleaned out her closet. I need to try them on. (bottom left) I’m not sure how many – if any – of my bras still fit me. My boobs got weird after having the baby. I’ve decided I’m going to get one really nice article of clothing every month, starting with a good bra in January. I also need to come up with a good method to purge my panties. I have a lot that I never wear, but won’t get rid of for some reason. (bottom right) These are my “love” clothes that I don’t really love but I wear them a lot, so whatever.

Here’s what my reorganized closet looks like. Still on the fence on if I like it – we’ll see how functional it ends up being once it’s full of clothes. I’m not entirely sure how else I could set it up so it would work better… Suggestions?

For the bathroom, I just needed to “scrub” (I let Scrubbing Bubbles do most of the work) our shower and tub. Mr. T was supposed to finish the shower door project that he had started on, but I decided to give him projects based on the assumption that he had Mondays off. In actuality, he started on a project to design a mural for a new space at a local restaurant that is now taking up most of his Mondays…so we’ll see how much he actually gets done over the next few weeks. I’m really excited about the mural, though, so I won’t complain. But yeah, no work was done on the shower.

So, yeah – the tub wasn’t too exciting because it stays pretty clean. I use it so infrequently that the only real issue is that it gets dusty. The shower, on the other hand…oh, the shower…

2017 – January, Week 2 | The Wilson Buzz

At least you get satisfaction in getting visible improvement? And maybe now you have a better idea about what shape our toilet was in. lol! As far as the other stuff on my checklist…

2017 – January, Week 2 | The Wilson BuzzWell. I tried. Kind of. A little bit. On a couple days. lol! I have been trying to be mindful of the “hot spots” – our table and ottoman. Just keeping those clean I feel goes a long way toward keeping the house feeling clean. This coming week it’s going to be the kitchen island as well – I try to focus on a new one without giving up on the previous one(s) every week.

So for Week 1 all (ha! “all”) I had to do was totally clean out my closet (then clean it) and scrub the toilet in the master bathroom. Mr. T’s project was to fix the toilet. It had started leaking – again – where the water line connects to the tank. It actually started doing this not long after we moved in and he fixed it back then with some plumber’s tape. He was actually doing the same thing this time, but he’s so MANLY AND STRONG that he tightened it too much and broke the PVC connector and had to replace it. >.< Anyway, after he replaced it, it seems the leak is fixed – again – at least for now.

If you follow me on Instagram (you totally should), you’ve already seen these pictures. But here are the Before/After photos of the closet from Day 1 of “the emptying”:

2017 - January, Week 1 | The Wilson Buzz2017 - January, Week 1 | The Wilson Buzz I’m not entirely sure how many trips I took up the stairs with all my clothes. And for the record, this isn’t even all my clothes. These are just the ones in my closet. I’m sure there are plenty mixed in with Mr. T’s clothes in our disaster of a bedroom, and I just don’t want to deal with that right now. ALSO, since I knew I was going to be doing this, I’ve gotten a bit lazy about hanging up my clothes after washing them (which is part of the reason my “before” pictures are so horrific)…but that means all the clothes I wear pretty regularly were the first ones I carried upstairs. So they’re at the bottom of the pile. Finding clothes to wear to work was fun. >.<

I don’t have any pictures of the results from the cleaning and reorganization, though. Actually, I did take some, but then I planned on doing a couple more things so I decided to delete those pictures and take new ones…I did do the stuff I planned on doing, but I didn’t take more pictures! I’m not 100% sold on the new layout, anyway. We’ll just have to see how it works as I start bringing in clothes. I may have screwed myself out of a lot of hanging space with how I placed the furniture.

Oh, and I’m not going to show you a picture of our toilet. Even I have my limits with oversharing, okay? You may not believe it, but it’s true! Plus, if you saw it now, you’d go “it’s just a toilet, though” and I’d be like “but you should have seen it BEFORE!!” And now you’re probably imagining something way more horrific than it really was. Anyway, no pictures.

Outside of the main closet/master bath projects I had, I also have some daily and one-off tasks planned out in my daily planner. I think I did a pretty good job of maintaining that as well. Way to be responsible, Sarah! *pats self on back* I didn’t always get it done the day I scheduled, but I still got most everything done! Except the exercise. Screw exercise…

Big, Bad Bathroom Clean Up

Flowers!

It’s time to choose a little bunch of blooms to celebrate your ever-improving home.

Deep Clean the Bathroom

  • Grab the towels that are out on hooks or bars, along with the shower curtain (if you have one) and throw them in the washing machine.
  • Clear the counter, put everything in a box and transfer out of the bathroom temporarily.
  • Put your cleaner in the toilet and let it sit.
  • Clean the sink, scrub the tub and give the drains a good flush with vinegar followed by hot water.
  • Clean the toilet.
  • Do a good overall clean of the counter, tiled walls and floor.
  • Shine up the mirror and replace the towels and counter-top goodies.

Holy crap, I disappeared for awhile. So sorry! Anyway, I pretty much did this way back at the end of December. We’ve done a pretty bang-up job of maintaining for the past month or so. So I’m gonna call this one done. If you want to see pictures, go to the December post. 8P

Clean(ish) Bathroom!

I did it. I cleaned the bathroom. Mostly. I still need to sweep/mop. But for real. Look at the before pictures…it was rough. We had a desk lamp in our sink for…way longer than I’m willing to admit.

So, yeah. It’s better. I doubt our house will ever be some sort of magazine-worthy piece of art, but whatever. We can use both our sinks and see the floor. I call it a win! Looking at them now, I had already done some cleaning before taking my “before” pictures, because the floor is far too clean in those pictures. lol!

It’s 8:30am on Thursday, December 31 and I am feeling relatively motivated. Let’s get all the things I was supposed to do the past few days done!

Clean the Bathroom

I’m sure you have a process down that works for you, but if it helps to have a checklist to follow along with, here goes:
  • Grab the towels that are out on hooks or bars, along with the shower curtain (if you have one) and throw them in the washing machine.
  • Clear the counter, put everything in a box and transfer out of the bathroom temporarily.
  • Put your cleaner in the toilet and let it sit while you…
  • Clean the sink, scrub the tub and give the drains a good flush with vinegar followed by hot water.
  • Clean the toilet.
  • And, then, do a good overall clean of the counter, tiled walls and floor.
    • You might want to try this nifty process, which I tried for the first time after reading about it in Real Simple: spray the counter and tiled walls with your favorite spray cleaner and turn the shower on HOT for a few minutes until it gets steamy. At that point, turn off the shower and close off the bathroom for 15 minutes or so to help make the cleaner more effective (it really works!). Come back and wipe things down with an absorbent cloth (a swiffer-y type mop can help you reach up high if needed). Dry everything well. Finish off the job by wiping the floor tile.
  • Finally, shine up the mirror and replace the towels and counter-top goodies.

…and you are almost done with the January Cure! Can you believe it?

Would you like to talk about how hard I fell off the wagon? I fell of the wagon hard, y’all. But I’m going to finish all this!!

…11 days later…

So I didn’t really follow any of the directions, which I probably should have… But I worked from home on Friday and on my lunch break I cleaned. I kind of forgot to take “before” pictures, but whatever. You don’t need to know everything that happens around here, geeze. Can we get a little privacy?! PICTURE TIME:AT January Cure #19: Blast the Bathroom | The Wilson BuzzHere are our sinks. Don’t look in the sinks. I need to clean the drains. I really hate white counters. They’re impossible to keep clean. Especially if you’re not clean people. If anyone in the world doesn’t need white counters, it’s us. AT January Cure #19: Blast the Bathroom | The Wilson BuzzLook at the rugs I bought! We lived here for over two years before I got bath mats. DO NOT JUDGE. These guys were on clearance at Walmart and they are so squisy and soft…I do love them. I’m not sure on the color, but I don’t know what color I want the bathroom to be eventually, so Clearance Blue is good enough for me!AT January Cure #19: Blast the Bathroom | The Wilson BuzzA rare occurrence: Mr. T’s towel hanging on its hook. And another bath mat!!AT January Cure #19: Blast the Bathroom | The Wilson BuzzOh look, the toilet! How lovely. And that is our – clean – master bathroom. Just…just don’t look in the bedroom, okay?
