Surface Sweep May 4

Posted on

So I kind of suck at doing a Surface Sweep every day. MY BAD. I did good for a week! Which is about right, for my commitment and focus. 8P But like I said yesterday, I’M BACK ON TRACK. I’M MOTIVATED. I actually followed through, too! I went home yesterday and cleaned up the backyard!! There are no before pictures because eff you, it was bad and I didn’t think about it.

Picture time!

Our yard is definitely way more green than when we first moved in! Too bad it’s almost all weeds… :\ We’ve thrown grass seed out more than once, so some of it is grass. But it’s mostly weeds. But it’s green!! I’m not too worried about it right now, because I want to add terracing to the lawn, anyway, which will involve digging it all up and all sorts of stuff. One day…

We want to cut out a chunk of that left bush and put a “tree” house between the two shrubs against the back fence. I think it will be #supercool. And also filled with wasp nests. Weeee!

I think the ice storm really did a number on some of our plants, too. That or we just don’t know how to maintain them – which is true. The rose bush had a lot of dead branches on it I had to clip off. Hopefully the rest of it will survive. And the honeysuckle looks totally dead. I couldn’t find the stronger clippers to cut it down off the fence.

The plumb trees are doing great, though! I really hope they make it… The dogwood out front is still going strong as well. Hooray for baby trees!

These guys, on the other hand… I don’t know if we were supposed to clip them down for winter or what. There is some new growth. Basically we just don’t know what we’re doing. I need friends with a ladder and chainsaw to come hack the tops out, maybe. See if they grow back. We also need a stump grinder to get rid of the leftover Bradford pear that keeps sprouting back up, as well as the pine tree stump out front and a bush that I had to cut down to make room for the plumb trees.

So, yeah. MOTIVATION. PROGRESS. Surely I can do this!! At least for a week!! lol

My next goal is to get glass in the coffee/end tables in the living room. I’d also like to paint them black, AND finish my macrame door hanging. But, easiest thing to do, and most useful, would be getting the glass. I CAN DO THIS.

Good News, Everyone! | The Wilson Buzz

So many awesome things have happened recently. I must need share.

Firstly: FR moved out! She’s gone!! She’s goooooooone! She had her lovely lovely beau bought a house together. She’s been gone for about a week and it’s been GLORIOUS. Her mattress is still here, but she said she’ll be out by the end of the month and will still pay rent for March + $$$ to fix the carpet her cats destroyed.

Part B: The tree in the front yard is gone! I was going to add a link to the post about that, and then realized I never actually finished/posted it. >.< So, yeah – the big pine tree in our front yard is no more.

#3: We sold the PT Cruiser!! SamE’s boyfriend bought it, the poor fool super awesome man. So Emily gets a second lease on life – he’s going to totally replace her engine. I hope she gives him many years of service. And she’s no longer in our driveway!!

IV: We’re going to plant grass tomorrow!! 8} Oh it’s a glorious day to be alive.

Now for some potentially awesome, potentially super depressing news: I have to try to fit in my wedding dress again. April 19 a friend-of-a-friend is going to do some bridal portraits to try to flesh out her portfolio. So I have a little over a month to get in shape. I CAN DO IT. Hopefully.

Yard Work! #7: Cutting Up

Cutting down?

I’m bad at being punny, but we cut down the Bradford pear. And by “we” I mean Mr. T and Smithy. Not only did I not help – I was not even at the house. That’s how I like my yard work getting did – while I’m far away from it.

I was actually at a Scentsy party. Yeah, I bought stuff. What? Scentsy is amazing, mmkay? I didn’t mean to, though. I’m weak. WEAK! The smells smelled so good. So I bought a warmer for the gallery. >.< That’s my excuse, anyway. Here’s what I bought:

But that’s not the point of this post. The tree is down!! Here is the full backyard album in G+ if you want to check it out. And here is the stump!

Bye, Bye BradfordMr. T and Smithy took turns cutting the stump up, while Splinter grabbed flying debris to gnaw on. Sorry there are no pictures of the actual process, but like I said, I was busy buying smell good things.

Here is the checklist again:

  1. clear out gravel and stepping stones
  2. line fence with stepping stones (I’d guess we’re about 2/3 of the way there?)
  3. clear out unwanted plants
  4. trim up the plants we have so they don’t look so cray
  5. create terracing/steps to make the incline less sucky and dumb
  6. build a fire pit
  7. cut down mother****ing Bradford Pear tree
  8. plant grass
  9. plant fruit tree(s)
  10. build pergola
  11. start a garden with raised flower beds
  12. build storage shed/“tree” house
  13. add personal touches to make it “ours” or some such milarky

Yard Work! Overview/Master Plan

Posted on

You guys. You. Guys. WE DID SO MUCH WORK IN THE BACKYARD THIS WEEKEND. God bless friends, amiright? (I’m trying really hard to come up with nicknames for these guys and I’m just failing…let me think on it some more and maybe it will come to me eventually.) I posted a status on Facebook requesting tools and they not only lent us all the tools known to man, they also spent all day helping us! I think I’m going to call them “Pher” And “Fer” since their names end in…..pher and fer. 8P So, yeah – Pher & Fer spent all day with us, doing miserable-type work. And Fer had been throwing up all night due to either mild food poisoning or a spiteful virus.

I really hate trying to post pictures in WordPress. They have this stupid “Add Media” thing, and then they do all this pseudo-HTML bull feces and it’s just gross. I have created a G+ photo album that should be open to the public. So go there if you want to see pictures. 8P

I don’t know if I have anything else to say about it. I’m ready for the yard to be done. D.O.N.E. done. I’m ready for a lot of our house to be done, actually. Especially the half-bath. >.< I’m going to buy a stencil roller today, I think. I’m hoping that works better than the paintbrush method I tried before. BUT I DIGRESS. This post is about the backyard. And you know what?? HAVE A PICTURE:

pile of debris from our backyard

Here is the massive pile of crap we have accumulated in the past couple months. It’s a combination of weeds, trees, and various other plants that we decided needed to die in the name of Progress!

How about a checklist of things we need to get done in the backyard?

  1. clear out gravel and stepping stones (we got enough of it to be satisfied)
  2. line fence with stepping stones (I’d guess we’re about 2/3 of the way there?)
  3. clear out unwanted plants (I’ll say…95% done with this one.)
  4. trim up the plants we have so they don’t look so cray
  5. create terracing/steps to make the incline less sucky and dumb
  6. build a fire pit
  7. cut down mother****ing Bradford Pear tree
  8. plant grass
  9. plant fruit tree(s)
  10. build pergola
  11. start a garden with raised flower beds
  12. build storage shed/“tree” house
  13. add personal touches to make it “ours” or some such milarky
