Mermaids in Paradise

  • a book with nonhuman characters
  • a book by a female author
  • a book set in a different country
  • a book based entirely on its cover
  • a book set somewhere you’ve always wanted to visit
  • a book with bad reviews
  • a book by an author you’ve never read before

Total honesty: I did not finish this book. Blech. I tried! I even made it over halfway through it, but then I remembered my “no bad books” mantra from the start of the year and thought Sarah, stop wasting your time on a book you don’t like! Life is too. short. to keep doing this! So I moved on.

Part of the reason this book sucked so hard was that it was an audiobook with a female narrator. I hate that I hate those so much, but I do. #sorrynotsorry The characters were absolutely horrible. The entire setup was just…weird. I hated the main character, hated her best friend, felt sorry for her (totally unrealistic) fiance/husband for having to deal with her, even though he was barely better. You’re about 1/3 of the way through the book before they even introduce the mermaids into it. And when I was getting fed up with the whole thing, I read a few reviews on Goodreads and found out the ending. Which is beyond stupid. So I went adios.

The cover is very lovely, though.
