January Cure 2016 – Assignment 8

A Quick Closet Cleanout

I want you to choose one closet in your home that could use a little attention. It doesn’t have to be the messiest one, or the one you use the most – any closet that will benefit from some decluttering, reorganizing or just plain old cleaning will do. This is a timed Cure exercise, so also grab your phone and set it for 30 minutes… JUST JUMP IN and don’t worry about how far you’ll get or whether it will be “finished” today. Go in armed with an outbox, a trash bag and a vacuum and do your best. Go for it and work fast. See how much you can get done quickly and know that any amount of straightening, rehanging, decluttering, scrubbing and dust-bunny hunting will make a dent! I chose Mr. T’s closet for this assignment. It’s been needing some TLC for…well, how about 3 years? lol! I really like that there was a 30 minute limit, too, because you could spend days working on his closet. What it really needs – and what it’s always needed – is better storage configuration. I’d love to go in and add shelves and whatnot, to better utilize the space. One day…

Anywho, PICTURES

I basically just pulled everything you can see directly from the front out and sorted it. Or piled it up to be sorted. Whatever. What makes his closet so terrible is that it extends to the right and left of the doors, but is so narrow it’s not really a walk-in. So stuff gets tucked and lost. And the man loses stuff without needing to tuck it away! I found two things that had been “missing” for months – one was on the floor by the dresser and one was for real sitting on top of the dresser. Just sitting right there. I convinced him to toss about 5-6 shirts that had some janky pit stains, and I found some of my clothes. The best thing I found, though, was a dresser drawer FULL of folded t-shirts. My prince, my darling, the love of my life, has actually been trying to maintain his own laundry!! He washed, folded, and put them away. All by himself! I for real almost cried. <3

I also found boxes from when we’d moved – one had the dolls I got from my grandmother’s collection that I am so excited to display in the nursery, and the other had a bunch of my giraffe stuff, and some stuffed animals. There were also all my journals from age 13 to, oh…21-22. No one ever needs to see those. >.>

Tell me how you REALLY feel:
