January Cure 2016 – Assignment 3

One Simple Step to a Healthier Year Ahead: Do a Pantry Purge

Here’s a quick breakdown of how to do the job right:

  • Move your trash can or a garbage bag to your pantry area.
  • A notepad and pencil are handy for noting down things you toss that need replacing.
  • Take everything out, one shelf/section at a time.
  • Sort the items as you go, getting rid of anything expired.
  • Once a shelf is cleared, clean it.
  • Replace the items on the clean shelf, dusting them off as you go.
  • Put like things together so you can find them more easily.
  • Repeat the process for each shelf/section and do a small celebratory dance when you are done.

Completing this assignment not only contributes to a cleaner, more organized kitchen, it’s the first step to encouraging more delicious cooking and healthy eating at home in the New Year.

I have yet to complete one of these on the day I’m supposed to. My bad. But I did it!!

It might be hard to tell, but that pantry is ever-so-slightly more organized now. I’m not really sure how I can truly organize it, though. The shelves are really deep. I need a better way to layer things, or something. Because I organize it all the time, and then it gets trashed again. Oh, well…job security, right?
