Comment Update

Alright, I vaguely took your comments (the ones I knew about, anyway) into consideration. But mostly I went with what seemed like the best option to me – I’m sticking with WordPress comments.

According to the plugin developer for the comments plugin I was using, there is no way to get notifications if someone commented via G+. (Am I the only person that hates putting a period after a symbol? “G+.” is so ugly to me…) I didn’t see any response from him regarding FB, but if any of them don’t work I don’t want to deal with it.

I don’t have the type of blog that has a comments section full of back-and-forth between readers, like a mini-forum. My comments (when I get any) tend to be a direct message to me, that only I reply to. I know that when I comment on other people’s blogs it makes me sad when there is no response from the blogger (even though I usually forget to subscribe to future comments, so I never really know if they reply or not >.<) and I don’t want to do that to you guys.

My original hosting was Blogger, and I tried a few different things over there for comments. You could be anonymous, but had to use a CAPTCHA. Or you could be anonymous and I had to approve your comment before it was posted. Or it could be set up so you had to use your G+ profile to comment. I got complaints from all of those (well, the “needing approval” one was just me complaining to myself, but it still counts). Basically…you can’t please everyone.

So I’m just gonna stick with WordPress for now. If that plugin is ever updated so that I can be notified for G+ and FB comments, I’ll switch back to it. You do have to submit some sort of “name” and an email address before you can comment via WordPress, but you don’t have a to have a special account, and once I approve one of your comments you should be able to comment on anything without needing approval from then on. At least I think that’s how I have it set up.

Comment Frustration

Guys…let’s take a poll on how we want comments to work here. The plugin I currently have is pretty sweet – it allows you to comment either via Facebook, G+, or the standard WordPress comment system. BUT (and it’s a pretty big but) I have no way of knowing when you comment, unless it’s via WordPress. There is no notification system in place for G+ or FB.

I found one module that does allow FB comments and does send me emails, but it’s only Facebook. You cannot comment using either G+ or WordPress. I don’t particularly like that option. Now, you can tag me, or whatever it’s called, in G+ by typing “+Sarah Wilson” (only if we’re in each other’s circles, I’m assuming) and I will be notified. But if you do the same thing under the FB tab it will not notify me.

I don’t know what I want to do… I’m tempted to just stick with the plain WordPress comments. I don’t think you’re required to create an account or anything. And once I’ve approved you once, you can comment as often as you want. I’ll still have the “share” buttons to post a link on FB or G+ and then you can tag me that way, if you’re my friend. What do you think?

Drumroll, please!

Welcome to my new blog! Notice the lack of “.blogspot” in the URL. Faaaaancy….

Other than that, it’ll be about the same. Well, I also have a new “theme”. But that’s whatever. I’ve changed that before. I’ve never had a legit URL, though! I’m domain’d!! ;) So my plan is to update this blog with a new post and an old post every time I…post. I’m not sure I’m actually going to post an old post right now, though. It’s after 1:00 and I’m still awake. Poor life choices alert! I am le tired.

On the upside, saw The World’s End tonight and it was vurry good. Vurry vurry good. 8}

First!!1!ONE

I’m not clever, which is why I’ve been scared of starting a blog. I read several really good ones: DooceThe BloggessThe Dog-Faced Girl (does that one count – it’s maybe more of a comic…), Telling Dad. I’ve also read a few blogs that are just…blah (no references, of course). I’m worried I’ll fall into the second category.

Anyway, I’ll use this (First!!!1!) post to introduce our family briefly. I’m married to a tattoo artist – we’ll call him Mr. T, maybe. We’ve been together for just over three years, married for one (the last one). He started apprenticing right around the time we started dating. I was a senior at my university (where I am now a grad student), studying Computer Science. We have a dog and a cat.

Hmm… Is that introduction enough for the first (!!1!!!one!) post? I think so. Maybe next time I’ll talk about how we met. And later started dating. That’s a fun story. That I don’t think we’ve ever told. All of the Internet will be our first audience. Congratulations!
