Becoming a Morning Person, Lesson 6

So I’ve signed up for this free online “class” through Little Green Dot about becoming a morning person. If you’re interested in it, tough toenails, ’cause the class is closed. ;) But you can read along in my blog!!

Stay Active, Stay Motivated

There’s a new exercise video for you today, called Good Morning, Sunshine! It pushes you a little further than Monday’s video, so remember to take things at your own pace. 10 minutes is better than nothing – and better than giving up. When I need a little motivation, there are my top 5 go-to tips. Let me know what works for you!

  1. Make a Playlist – I create playlists that make me giggle and get me going. They are a huge mood changer and motivator.
  2. Pick a Workout Wear style – Workout clothes do not need to be expensive to be inspiring. I’m a huge fan of ‘up-cycling’ my husbands oversized t-shirts with a little DIY scissor work to make them fun and funky.
  3. Plan Your Perfect Post-Mat Cup – Whatever your perfect cup, it’s super inspiring to me to know what I have to look forward to and ‘treat’ myself with post morning workout.
  4. Carve Out Your Space – Give the space you workout in some thought, love and attention. Keep it simple, sparse and neat to minimize distraction and maximize focus on your self.
  5. Know your WHY – Do really  know WHY you’re working out? Dig deep to know  WHY you get on the mat and refer back to it DAILY. If you don’t know what your why is yet, I promise, it’s the main reason you haven’t created a consistent practice of health & fitness yet. Find your WHY and motivation comes pretty easily.

Your challenge this week is to pick one of the 5 tips and take action on it.

I’ve fallen a bit off the wagon with this Morning Person project. :\ This email went out last Thursday and I’m only just now looking at it. But today is a new start!!! I got my workout supplies for Tai Cheng in the mail this weekend, so today I start a new workout regime. Wish me luck!! Because…

  1. If I work out when I get home…
  2. …I take a shower in the evening.
  3. Taking a shower in the evening…
  4. …frees up more morning time.
  5. So I can do morning Pilates!

Now, as far as picking one tip…

Playlists… I’m not really down with this one. Maybe eventually…but I like still, calm mornings. There is an “Acoustic Morning” playlist on Spotify that I’ve listened to at work a couple times, and really enjoyed. So maybe once I have a routine down I’ll try that out? But for now, this one’s a “no”.

Outfits… Ahahahahha! I can understand the logic on this to a degree. Your outfit does affect your mood. If you look good, you feel good. But listen. I’m not spending money on workout clothes. And I’ve tried to use scissors to “up-cycle” t-shirts and it did NOT go well. So here’s another “no”.

Morning beverages… This is something I can probably do. The week after I go grocery shopping I’m a champ at drinking smoothies. But as soon as I run out of fresh bananas all bets are off. Yes, I should buy a bunch and then freeze them, but I don’t. I should…but I don’t. I’ll say this one is a “maybe, eventually” sort of situation.

Workout spaces… I think this could happen!! When I get home this evening Mr. T and I will (hopefully) tidy up our bonus room and get it workout ready. So I can do my Tai Cheng up there in the evenings and Pilates in the mornings. Fingers crossed that this one becomes a “yes”!

Why?? I discussed my “Why” in the last assignment. Basically I want to become – and stay – active because I want to constantly strive to have a healthier life. I don’t care to lose x-amount of pounds, or fit into y-size pants…I just want to know every day when I go to bed that I really tried to improve myself. Read the Bible, took the stairs, drank enough water, exercised, didn’t yell at the dogs, didn’t flip off another driver… ;) So I think this is a solid “yes” – I know why. I just need to remind myself of it!!

Which, come to think of it… I wrote a post ages and ages ago about my one-day sleeve… I had found a quote (heard it on Criminal Minds, if you want the truth) that really resonated with me. It reminded me of my favorite Bible verses (Romans 7:15 & 18-20). I decided I wanted to incorporate the phrase “Be Different” into my tattoo. I have no clue when we’ll get to work on that tattoo…I keep changing my mind about what exactly I want it to look like, but I do know I want that there.

So tonight, on top of starting my Tai Cheng workout and turning the bonus room into a workout space, I’m going to clean the bathroom (one of the last steps of my January Cure that I haven’t gotten to yet), and write on the mirror BE DIFFERENT, to remind myself every day that improvement is the name of the game.

  1. Huh, I must be too literal. I took those bible verses to mean something entirely different, something more along the lines of, “I am incapable of doing good no matter how much I might wish to, but it matters little since it is not really I who do evil, but the sin inside me.”, which I found kind of depressing. Mind you, I had to read that several times to come to that conclusion because I’m not sure the author could have been more confusing had they tried. I think my brain broke somewhere along the way.

    • Naw, he’s saying that he wants to do the right thing, but keeps messing up, because he’s human and humans tend to screw everything up. And then he realizes “Hey, you know what – I can’t really be what I want to be on my own, because I’m a human and humans suck.” tl;dr – you need Jesus, brah.

Tell me how you REALLY feel:
