AT Style Cure #13: Make a Little Project Progress

One of my favorite blogs is Apartment Therapy. For the month of November they’re doing a Style Cure room makeover challenge to help you prepare for the holidays. I’m going to makeover our bedroom – while it’s not really a room that will get a lot of visibility from guests I think having a “safe” place to come back to for family overload recovery will be very beneficial. :)

#13: Put some time in on your project for the room.

GET STARTED! With supplies and info in hand, today is the time to really dig in and start making some progress toward your goals. While spending a longer stretch of time is always preferable, even if you can only spare 30 minutes today, do it. Putting your mind to it is half the battle!

My first thought was the yellow stripe…but I’m making Mr. T do that. Or at the very least we need to work on it together (Lord help us). I think something quick and easy that I can do on my own would be fixing up the gallery wall! I might regret this, of course… I’ll report back after my attempt!

AT Style Cure #13: Make a Little Project Progress | The Wilson BuzzHere is a beautiful before picture. That sarcasm is directed at the quality of the photo, not the state of the gallery wall itself, for the record. It was a bit scattered, though. And it wasn’t following my “love” theme that I want for this room. I don’t think it took me 30 minutes to make this update, but I’m so glad I finally did it…

AT Style Cure #13: Make a Little Project Progress | The Wilson BuzzThis is an after photo from the same angle, because people seem to want those so badly. I doubt anyone will care about this particular project, but I figured I should get in the habit just in case I ever start taking quality pictures, doing quality projects, or at the very least have legit followers. ;)

AT Style Cure #13: Make a Little Project Progress | The Wilson BuzzHere’s one at a little bit better angle. Sorry for the low quality – I did this when I got home from work, so it was dark outside. And even if it wasn’t dark our bedroom only has one window. It’s very cave-like, which is why I wanted bright white walls instead of the dark and gloomy brown that was there before.

Anyway, I totally winged it on this layout. There’s probably a better option, but we aren’t planners. All of it is being held up with push pins, too. We’re classy. And there are a billion holes in this wall. >.< When I look at it IRL it seems like it’s all too far to the right, but looking at the picture above this one it seems like it’s too far to the left. Very strange… Eventually I want to cover the entire wall with art so it won’t matter. At least that’s what I’m telling myself to justify leaving it like this. Plus, you don’t really want me to put more holes in the wall, do you?!

In case you wanted it, and even if you don’t, here are close-ups of all the stuff we have on the wall. Sorry for the crappy quality…you can click to embiggen. Hopefully that will help. :(

I got these from a seller on Etsy. All her stuff is super adorable. But this was my first introduction to prints that don’t fit into standard frame dimensions. Hobby Lobby to the rescue! I found two serving trays, so I bought them, paint, and washi tape and made what you see in the left two photos. I was really proud of that, for the record. 8} The cheap Hobby Lobby washi tape sucks, though, and they’re falling out. Question – should I coat them in Mod Podge? I’m on the fence…

There were only two trays at Hobby Lobby, unfortunately, so for the third I found a frame that had no glass in it, got some little eye hook screw things, wire, and itty bitty clothes pins and rigged this brilliant contraption up. I want you to know – I am so. proud. of this. It’s one of my greatest DIY achievements. I came up with it all on my own and it ended in great success. I still have another project along the same lines I need to finish, but that’s not important. Forget I mentioned it.

AT Style Cure #13: Make a Little Project Progress | The Wilson BuzzI got this print when I got the four Ghostbusters prints. If you bought five you got a discount of some kind…I forget now. I can’t remember where I ordered them from, either, to link back to the artist. I’m super bummed about that. :( He had a lot of amazing prints, too! *sad trombone* The frame on this needs some work. Mr. T threw it in here the same day he threw up this gallery wall (not literal vomit, of course – you know what I meant). I found this frame at Goodwill… I’m not sure if I’m going to paint it or not, but at the very least we need to center the print inside it!!

AT Style Cure #13: Make a Little Project Progress | The Wilson BuzzA friend of ours made this for us as a housewarming gift, I think. Or a wedding present…

AT Style Cure #13: Make a Little Project Progress | The Wilson BuzzMr. T painted this for me!! I lurve it so, so much. He seriously cranked this out in one night – after I’d gone to bed. He will never cease to amaze me. It’s absolutely adorable and I want to show it off to the entire world. 8D

AT Style Cure #13: Make a Little Project Progress | The Wilson BuzzI made this one!! Well, Mr. T painted us (yes that’s us!) but I melted the crayon on the canvas (yes that’s crayon!) – it was a lot of fun. I thought I’d blogged about it, but this is all I can find. Maybe on my old blog? Yes! I never posted a finished product, though, so…here it is!! lol! >.< I had started manually copying all my old posts over to this blog from my old one, and must have stopped sometime between those two. Or something. I don’t know what’s going on on my old posts. Don’t venture back there – it’s a mess.

AT Style Cure #13: Make a Little Project Progress | The Wilson BuzzLookie lookie – an engagement picture!! Braska updated her studio, so she sold us all her sample prints at cost. We finally have some engagement/wedding/trash the dress prints!! Most of them still need to be framed, though. This was the only ready-to-hang one we got, so it’s the only one hanging up. 8}

AT Style Cure #13: Make a Little Project Progress | The Wilson BuzzOh look – our marriage certificate! I found this curled up under our nightstand when I was cleaning for Assignment 7. Mr. T threw it in a random too-big frame he’d found somewhere. A few days ago I found a frame that was the perfect size in the garage and brought it in to put this in. On the back in gel pen Mr. T had written “I love Sarah <some other last name>” and oooohhhhh snap! I think that was the ex that led him to declare his hatred for my name way back when. He refused to let me use that frame for our marriage license, but I thought it would be kind of hilarious. Oh, well. It’s in this frame for now.

AT Style Cure #13: Make a Little Project Progress | The Wilson BuzzI made this a long, long (ish) time ago. And I blogged about it! It was actually a lot of fun. It’s a quote from Pride and Prejudice, over top of pages from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which was a dreadful book that we’d somehow acquired two copies of over the years. You can’t really tell because for some reason I never take a good picture of it, but the photo in the middle is from the part in the book where Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth are in the middle of a garden and all these zombies are eating cabbages thinking they’re brains. Here’s a picture I found online:
